Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking at an election rally in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh, said that loans of small farmers will be waived off if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes to power in the state. Targeting the Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance, he said that the 11 March result will expose the two.
“After the elections, when BJP will come to power in UP, the first thing I will do is work for farmers. There is a family who wants to make Potato in factories. I don't have any expectation from such a family who doesn't even know about agriculture,” News 18 quoted him as saying.
Bijnor goes to polls on 15 February, during the second round of polling. First two stages cover areas in the state where farmer loans have come to be an important electoral issue.
Modi recalled Chaudhary Charan Singh, saying that BJP will follow his steps and work for the welfare of the state. He added that the Congress party kept criticising Chaudhary Charan Singh and never appreciated the work he did for the poor farmers of the state. Charan Singh is one of the most revered political figures in Western UP.
The Prime Minister will also address an election rally in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand, where he is expected to target the ruling Congress party on lack of development and may respond to the criticism that his comment on former prime minister Manmohan Singh has drawn.

The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
