Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Monday (15 April) suffered a head injury during a Thulabharam ceremony at the Gandhari Amman Kovil temple in Kerala’s Thampanoor, News18 has reported.
Under the Thulabharam ceremony, a devotee makes offering to god equivalent to his or her own weight. Some of the offerings include fruits and sweets and are made with the devotee sitting on one side of the scale and offerings being placed on the other.
Incidentally, during this ceremony, the temple’s weighing scale broke and fell on Shashi Tharoor’s head, following which he was rushed to the hospital with a bandage wrapped around his head.
After preliminary treatment he was shifted to a super-speciality hospital where he received a total of 11 stitches. He is now said to be out of danger but all his campaigning programs have been postponed for the day.
The Thulabharam ceremony was his first program of the morning and he was accompanied by family members and party leaders.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
