India suspended flight services from the UK until December 31 on Monday over concerns regarding the discovery of a new strain of coronavirus in the European country.
However, five out of 266 passengers and crew members of a London to Delhi flight have tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday, New Indian Express reports.
The National Centre of Disease Control (NCDC) has been submitted their samples for research as a nodal officer reportedly confirmed, “Five out of 266 passengers and crew members of a flight which arrived at Delhi airport from London last night have tested positive for Covid-19. Their samples have been sent to NCDC for research and they have been sent to the care centre.”
Meanwhile, similar situation is apparent in Punjab as people arriving from UK are required to undergo RT-PCR tests due to which a long queue of people were witnessed waiting outside the Amritsar airport.
In Mumbai, two passengers from UK tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday morning and flyers were sent into institutional quarantine as authorised by the state.
Similarly, 222 passengers were on-board a flight that landed at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) airport on Sunday night. Twenty-five people did not have a Covid-19 report with them so were directed to a nearby quarantine centre whereas two individuals tested positive for the virus.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
