The United States (US) has officially begun the withdrawal of its remaining troopers from the war-torn and terrorism-battered Afghanistan, reports Hindustan Times. This comes as the US has determined to close the final phase of the process to end what is often called, the "forever war" in Afghanistan.
Speaking to reporters, Afghanistan's acting Defence Minister Zia Yasin said that the US and allied troops will be leaving their bases and will be gathering at the US' biggest base in the country at Bagram. He added that following this, the troops will "go to their respective countries".
It should be noted that President Joseph Biden had earlier announced that the US will pull back all its remaining 2,500 troopers from Afghanistan by the 20th anniversary of the 11 September attacks. He had said, "A horrific attack 20 years ago... cannot explain why we should remain there in 2021."
To be prepared for any untoward situation, security has been ramped up in the Afghan capital of Kabul. The Afghan security forces are also on a high alert for any possible Taliban attacks on retreating US troopers.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
