Sonia Gandhi-led Indian National Congress (INC)'s core group is set to meet today at her residence to take the final call on formation of Government with Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) as the latter was called by the Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Monday (11 November) night to decide on the same by Tuesday 8:30 pm, reports Asian News International (ANI).
The NCP was called by the Governor after the Shiv Sena led by Uddhav Thackeray failed to garner the needed numbers in time and asked the Governor for additional time to gather support for formation of government in the State with a Sena member as a Chief Minister (CM).
Upon being invited to form the government by the Governor, senior leader and spokesperson of the NCP, Nawab Malik addressed the media persons and informed them that the party would take up discussions with the INC and see how a stable Government could be formed in Maharashtra under their leadership.
NCP, led by party supremo and veteran politician Sharad Pawar won a total of 54 seats, two lesser than the Shiv Sena, and almost half the tally scored by the BJP in the just culminated elections.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
