India’s Women T-20 world cup opener started started with the flyer after they beat defending champions Australia by 17 runs.

India while batting first had posted a target of 132 runs in 20 overs at the loss of four wickets. Australia in reply was bowled out for 115 in 19.5 overs.

India’s bowling figures were led by spinner Poonam Yadav whose introduction turned the game in the team’s favour. Yadav picked up four wickets in quick succession to derail the Australian batting lineup.

Medium pacer Shikha Pandey too played a key role and picked up three wickets including one on the second last ball.

India will next play Bangladesh in the group stage fixture.
