Union Home Minister Amit Shah ruled out the possibility of a Nepal-style “Gen Z protest” in India, saying that such an uprising by the youth cannot happen here.
Speaking at an NDTV event on Saturday (1 November), Shah explained that India’s deeply entrenched democratic foundations make such protests unlikely.
“India is not Nepal. Our democratic roots are very strong. I don't think a Gen Z protest is possible here,” the Union Home Minister said.
"The youth of our nation work very hard and contribute to the nation's development. I don't think a Nepal-like protest is possible," Shah said.
On the upcoming polls in Bihar, Shah warned that a victory for the Mahagathbandhan would bring back “jungle raaj” in the state.
He also addressed various national and state issues, asserting that the Maoist menace will soon be eradicated.
The Nepal unrest in September claimed over 73 lives, with Gen Z demonstrators torching key government institutions including the parliament and courts.
What began as anger over a short social media ban quickly evolved into a massive outburst driven by years of economic distress and corruption in Nepal.
Earlier in the day, Shah appealed to Bihar’s voters to back the NDA, showcasing the government’s achievements and pledges in the Sankalp Patra.
Unable to reach Gopalganj due to bad weather, he addressed the rally virtually.
"People of Gopalganj know about the deeds of Sadhu Yadav. During the time of jungle raj, countless murder incidents happened. Instead, PM Modi and Nitish Kumar worked for good governance in Bihar," Shah said.
Bihar goes to polls in two phases on 6 and 11 November, with counting of votes scheduled for 14 November.
