The Centre will now cover the entire construction cost of 92 railway overbridges in Odisha, the Ministry of Railways announced following a request from the state government, reported The New Indian Express.

Previously, the expenses for railway overbridges were shared equally between the Centre and the state.

Out of the 92 sanctioned overbridges, Khurda district will receive 35, Ganjam 21, Jajpur 13, Cuttack 10, Bhadrak three, while Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Rayagada, and Angul will each get two, and Bargarh one.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the Union Ministry, responding to Odisha’s appeal, informed through an official communication that it would bear the entire cost for constructing all 92 bridges.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi welcomed the announcement, saying that converting these 92 road overbridge projects to complete central funding and unified execution by Indian Railways demonstrates the Centre’s firm resolve to enhance safety and accelerate infrastructure connectivity across Odisha.

Majhi added, “The decision will greatly benefit the people by ensuring faster project execution, safer travel and improved road-rail integration. The prime minister has always given special attention to the development of Odisha. His devotion for the people of the state will accelerate the development.”
