In her budget speech on Saturday (1 February), Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the Centre will help the farmers with barren lands to set up solar power generation plants so that they can earn income by selling the electricity generated.
“A scheme to enable farmers to set up solar power generation capacity on their fallow and barren lands, and to send it to grid would be operationalised,” Sitharaman said in her budget speech.
The proposal by the Finance Minister comes as the Prime Minister Modi-led government has committed to double farmers income and setting up 175 giga watt clean power.
