Putting the onus of his grandson’s Parliamentary ambitions on the public, former PM and JDS supremo H D Devegowda said that, “It is the responsibility of the people of Mandya to elect Nikhil Kumaraswamy”, reports Deccan Herald.
Addressing a campaign rally in Halagur, a shanty town in Mandya district, Devegowda said, “It is not my decision to field Nikhil in Mandya. It’s the decision of MP and eight MLAs. Now it is your responsibility to ensure his victory’’.
Devegowda urged the people to support the Congress-JDS coalition candidates and keep the BJP away.
In the meantime, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy is busy seeking votes for his son, campaigning across Mandya. He undertook roadshows in many villages of the agrarian district.
At a rally, Kumaraswamy made an oblique reference to Sumalatha, independent candidate for the Mandya Loksabha seat, “The Independent candidate is seeking votes in the name of fanfare and sympathy. But I am the one responding to the farmers and seeking support. Please elect those who respond to your problems’’.
All the MLAs, along with MP, of Mandya district, are actively campaigning for Congress-JDS coalition candidate Nikhil.
