After a year-long suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will restart catering services in 62 stations in the first phase from 1 February, 2020, Mint reports.
New Delhi, Bhopal, Ahmedabad, Howrah, Surat, Vijayawada, Patna, Ujjain, Panvel are amongst the major stations included in this initial leg of resumption.
IRCTC e-catering services were kicked off from 2014 onwards. It allows passengers to order their desired food items from acclaimed brands and regional restaurants whilst travelling.
The food is then delivered to their seats at the selected railway station. IRCTC was registering 20000 e-catering orders on a daily basis before the Covid-19 pandemic struck. There were increasing demands in the last few months to resume this service as trains have been operating after a brief half last year.
Passengers can either call 1323 to place their e-catering orders or download IRCTC’s dedicated application for the same: ‘Food On Track’.
The website www.ecatering.irctc.com will also cater the services whereas the option of ‘cash on delivery’ has been provided further convenience to the travelers.
