Even as counting of votes for the present Lok Sabha elections continues across the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on track to again secure a landslide victory from the Varanasi constituency.
In 2014, Modi had beaten his closest rival in Varanasi, Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal, by a margin of over 3.71 lakh votes. Currently, even as counting is still underway and the final result is yet to be declared, Modi already has a lead of more than 2.5 lakh votes over Samajwadi Party candidate Shalini Yadav.
It remains to be seen whether this time’s margin for the prime minister will beat his previous performance in Varanasi. Under the BJP government, the constituency has been the site of major redevelopment works as part of the Kashi corridor to revitalise ancient Hindu temples and heritage of the town.
