Mukul Roy, a senior TMC leader, announced on Tuesday that he is still a BJP legislator and wanted to meet with Union Home Minister Amit Shah as he wishes to rejoin the party.
Roy travelled to New Delhi for personal reasons on Monday night. His son, Subhargshu Roy, who is also a TMC leader, initially had claimed that his father had been missing and was untraceable.
But later, it turned out that it was only to accuse the BJP of playing dirty politics, stating that Mukul is unwell and not in the 'right frame of mind'.
"I am a BJP legislator. I want to be with the BJP. The party has made arrangements for my stay here. I want to meet Amit Shah and speak to (party president) J P Nadda,” Mukul Roy told a Bengali news channel.
“I was not keeping well for quite some time, so I was away from politics. But right now, I am fine and would again be active in politics," he said.
He also said that he is "100 per cent confident" that he would never be associated with the TMC.
Mukul also suggested his son Subharanghsu that "he too should join the BJP as it would suit him best".
"My father is not in the right frame of mind. I would request everyone not to do politics with an unwell person," Subhargshu Roy had told the reporters on Monday.
He also claimed that his father had undergone "brain surgery" last month and failed to recognise even family members and close associates.
However, Suvendu Adhikari, a senior BJP leader, stated that the saffron camp is not keen in "inducting Mukul Roy back into the party."
In 2017, Mukul switched from TMC to BJP due to conflicts with the party leadership. He was appointed as the national vice-president of the BJP.
He won 2021 election for BJP, but returned to TMC after results were declared. He's kept a low profile since his return to the party.
