Indian sellers are reportedly expected to exceed $8 billion in exports to Amazon marketplaces worldwide by 2023.
This update comes over a year after the global e-commerce marketplace revised up its target to achieve $20 billion in cumulative e-commerce exports from India by 2025.
The Amazon Global Selling program, launched in 2015, now have over 125,000 Indian exporters from more than 200 cities.
These sellers have the opportunity to list their products on 18 Amazon marketplaces, including the US, UK, UAE, Canada, Mexico, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Turkey, Brazil, Japan, Australia, and Singapore, and sell to over 200 markets globally.
"The first $5 billion essentially took seven years, but the next $3 billion - a litte over a year. So that is the sort of momentum were are seeing," Bhupen Wakankar, director global trade at Amazon India, was quoted by Livemint as saying.
Earlier, Amazon had doubled its target of cumulative exports from India form $10 billion to $20 billion by 2025 citing demand for Indian products including home textile, toys, textiles, handicrafts, and packaged food in markets abroad.
According to the data released by Amazon India on Wednesday (5 July), Amazon Global Selling programme now has exporters from 200+ cities including tier-2 towns such as Sri Ganganagar (Rajasthan), Neemuch (Madhya Pradesh), Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh), Tiruvallur (Tamil Nadu), and Kolhapur (Maharashtra).
More than 1,200 Indian exporters on the programme crossed Rs 1 crore in sales in 2022.
The data showed that Delhi has the largest base of exporters at 20,000, followed by Rajasthan (15,000), Maharashtra (15,000), Gujarat (12,000), UP (12,000), Haryana (7,000), Madhya Pradesh (5,000), Tamil Nadu (5,000), Punjab (4,000) and West Bengal (3,000).
