Exploring opportunities in hydrogen export, the government has decided to develop three major ports in the country as Green Hydrogen hubs.
Three major ports of the country - Kandla, Paradip, and Tuticorin - have been identified by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways for the purpose for which necessary infrastructure will be developed at these ports to facilitate production, storage, handling and bunkering of green hydrogen, green ammonia and its derivatives.
The ministry has taken this initiative in line with the target set under the National Green Hydrogen Mission launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The objective is to decarbonise and promote the use of greener and cleaner fuels for achieving a net-zero ecosystem in various sections of the economy.
India targets to develop capacity and capability for exporting about 5 million tons per annum of Green Hydrogen and its derivatives by 2030.
Hydrogen can be used in process industries like fertiliser and petro chemicals. Its derivatives as low carbon fuel can be used in mobility sectors like ship, metro and train.
Odisha will allot land for the purpose at Paradip Port as the port authorities intend to develop common infrastructure facilities for Green Hydrogen project.
Similarly Deendayal Port Authorities (DPA) has invited the Global Expression of Interest (EOI) to assess the response of developers / Market players in production, storage, and sale of Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia.
