In a move towards international expansion, state-owned RailTel Corporation is venturing into international business opportunities, with a keen focus on exploring infrastructure projects in Vietnam.

RailTel is one of the largest neutral telecom infrastructure providers in the country owning a pan-India optic fibre network and has a strategic relationship with the Indian Railways. It undertakes a wide variety of projects including provision of critical connectivity services.

The company aims at undertaking substantial projects, with a ticket size of Rs 1,000 crore and above, in the southeast Asian nation.

RailTel Corporation embarked on its international journey nearly a year ago, expanding its horizons beyond national borders. With a proactive approach towards seeking business overseas, RailTel recently engaged with Vietnamese authorities during a visit to Vietnam under the Namaste Vietnam initiative.

During this visit, RailTel, alongside private rail industry partners, participated in a prominent railway conference, leveraging the platform to showcase its expertise and capabilities, as per Economic Times report.

RailTel's interaction with urban transportation and railway authorities in Vietnam provided valuable insights into the nation's infrastructure modernisation plans for the years 2030 and 2050.

The discussions revolved around Vietnam's aspirations for upgrading its infrastructure and securing funding for these ambitious projects.

As Vietnam charts its path towards infrastructure modernisation, the funding aspect remains pivotal. RailTel officials emphasised the potential of government-to-government discussions in facilitating funding for these projects.

Typically, countries anticipate end-to-end funding for such endeavours, wherein project conceptualisation, cost assessment, and funding proposals are streamlined through bilateral governmental dialogues.

With discussions underway with embassy officials and local government authorities in Vietnam, RailTel Corporation is poised to leverage its expertise and capabilities to contribute towards the modernisation of Vietnam's infrastructure landscape.

As RailTel explores international avenues, its foray into Vietnam underscores its commitment to catalysing infrastructure development beyond India's borders.
