Uttar Pradesh industrial development minister Nand Gopal Gupta said that a fine of Rs 10 lakh per day would be levied on the developer of the upcoming Noida International Airport if there is a delay in completing the project.
The minister was on a two-day visit to Noida and Greater Noida, where he reviewed the workings of the local projects. He issued the above directives to senior officials of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) and the Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL), among other government agencies involved in the airport project.
“If the international airport is not ready on time, then a penalty will be imposed at the rate of Rs 10 lakh per day,” the minister told the officials.
The Noida airport, spread over an area of 1334 hectares, will have a single runway in phase I and will be capable of handling twelve million passengers annually. The first runway will be 3,900m-long and 45m-wide. The airport will start operations initially with one runway.
The airport will be located about 72 km from Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi; about 52 km from Noida, about 130 km from Agra and about 90 km from Multi-Modal Logistics Hub at Dadri.
The new airport would provide the national capital region (NCR) with a second facility after Indira Gandhi International Airport. This addition would support the decongestion of IGI Airport, which is soon expected to reach its maximum capacity.
CM Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh government has given special attention to the timely completion of infrastructure projects. Expressway, metro and other important connectivity projects in the state are getting built in a record time.
For example, Bundelkhand Expressway in Uttar Pradesh has reached overall progress of 94.4 per cent within 27 months from laying its foundation stone. Similarly, the government brought the Kanpur metro project to the trial run phase from the commencement of project works within two years.
