At least 500 of Kolkata Police Combat Force on Tuesday (19 May) protested in Kolkata allegedly over being posted in containment zones where they had larger risk of contracting novel coronavirus, Hindustan Times reported quoting a senior official.
As per the report, the cops staged protest in the premises of the Police Training School (PTS) complex in the capital city.
The sources attributed in the report, the cops gathered around the car of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Combat Battalion, Col Nevendera Singh Paul as he came to talk to them. The cops also allegedly vandalised his vehicle.
The protest from the personnel comes after seven cops in the state have already tested positive for COVID-19.
News agency PTI quoted one of the officer from the Combat Force who said, ““We are being sent on duty in high-risk areas. There are several policemen who have been infected with the virus. This cannot go on.”
State Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who met the cops at the protest site, assured them of taking their demands into consideration.
