With the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination exercise set to start on 16 January, Puducherry's Chief Minister and senior Congress party leader V Narayanasamy has urged Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi to allow political party leaders, ministers and legislators to be vaccinated in the first phase, reports Livemint.
In a letter written to PM Modi, CM Naranasamy has asserted that political party leaders, ministers, and legislators should be allowed to get vaccinated in the first phase, saying that it would set an example so that the people can have confidence.
This comes as PM Modi has clearly stated that in the first phase of COVID-19 vaccination, around three crore healthcare workers and frontline workers will be vaccinated. He had also said that thereafter, those above 50 years and those under 50 years with co-morbid conditions will be vaccinated in the second phase.
For the vaccination to begin, the first round of vaccine shipments was transported from the Serum Institute of India (SII)'s facility in Maharashtra's Pune to 13 locations across the nation yesterday (12 January).
