Bharti Airtel and Ericsson have successfully achieved trial download speeds of over 500 Mbps during Licensed-Assisted Access (LAA) tests over a LTE network in India,Telecom Talk has reported.
The Swedish telecom equipment manufacturer in partnership with Airtel ran their first test in India for the LAA technology which reportedly provides a massive boost to capacity and speeds on LTE networks. The companies announced the successful conclusion of the tests for the LAA technology over a LIVE LTE network.
According to the report, the trials were conducted in the Delhi-NCR region. Various phones in the region saw a peak download speed of 500 Mbps indoors and 400 Mbps outdoors with coverage radius being 180 meters of the base station.
Chief Technology Officer, Airtel, Randeep Sekhon said, “Airtel has always led the introduction of cutting-edge network technologies to serve its customers. We are pleased to partner Ericsson to conduct India’s first LAA trial, which is also a big step towards 5G and Gigabit networks. LAA is an important technology evolution that can truly unlock the power of 4G LTE networks by leveraging un-utilised unlicensed spectrum.”
