Reports have emerged of shots fired outside the Parliament of the United Kingdom. At least a dozen people have been injured on Westminster Bridge, reported a Reuters photographer. The assailant is reported to have been shot by the police.

According to a BBC report, witnesses earlier saw a man with a knife in the grounds. A police officer is said to have been stabbed.

The House of Commons session was suspended and staff, including members of Parliament, were told to remain inside their offices.
The spokesman for Prime Minister Theresa May has said she is safe.
