The locomotive manufacturing unit of the Indian Railways at Chittaranjan in West Bengal has created a world record by manufacturing the most number of locomotives in a year, Mint has reported.
The Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) manufactured a total of 402 locomotives in Financial Year 2018-19, thereby breaking their own record of 350 locomotives manufactured a year ago.
This highest locomotive production record in the world has officially been recognised in the Limca Book of Record.

Coming to the current financial year, the CLW has already rolled out 350 locomotives by 31 January. This translates to a figure of 35 locomotives each month. Juxtaposing it for the whole year, the CLW may again end up creating a new manufacturing record with a figure of 420 locomotives.
