A Delhi riots accused identified as Khalid Saifi who has been arrested in connection with the matter had travelled to Malaysia to meet with radical Islamist preacher Zakir Naik, India Today has reported.
As per the report, an investigation into the passport of Saifi has revealed that he travelled abroad to meet various individuals including Zakir Naik to raise funds for the riots. Saifi is said to be a close friend of Umar Khalid and suspended AAP councillor Tahir Hussain.
According to a status report filed by Delhi Police's Special Cell, Saifi received funds for the riots via an NRI account from Singapore. These funds were reportedly transferred to an NGO co-run by Khalid.
Saifi also allegedly received funds from Saudi Arabia and radical Islamist organisation PFI.
The cops hope to gain greater insight into the conspiracy after examining Saifi's phone. This is expected to help them establish the money trail and links with Zakir Naik.
