TTV Dhinakaran, the general secretary of the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), called the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) autocratic and intolerant, after the arrest of a party functionary, CSC Senthilkumaran of Nagapattinam, for a meme regarding Udhayanidhi Stalin.
The meme shared by Senthilkumaran was apparently to mock Udhayanidhi's recent elevation as Sports Minister. The meme has a scene from the movie 'Gentleman' in which actor Senthil introduces games like 'coupling' and 'spooling'.
While DMK supporters on social media said that the arrest is justified due to the distasteful nature of the remarks, others say that DMK functionaries also post such content on a regular basis.
Taking a swipe at Udhayanidhi, Senthilkumaran said that in a democracy only those who allow freedom of expression can become real leaders.
The Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) is a faction of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). His aunt VK Sasikala, was a close associate of late chief minister J Jayalalithaa.
