Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk’s space-based Starlink service, which aims to provide cheaper web for millions in remote areas across the world, will be available in India in 2022 through SpaceX satellites that will be launched in orbit, reports India Today.
Starlink service is now also available for pre-orders in India for $99 which is roughly above Rs 7000 and the orders will be fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis. The company also underscored that the pre-booking amount is refundable.
“Starlink is available to a limited number of users per coverage area at this time. Orders will be fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis,” the Starlink website reads.
The service is currently in beta testing stage and any user can check the availability of the services in their area by typing the city and postal code on the Starlink website (Link here).
“As we launch more satellites, install more ground stations and improve our networking software, data speed, latency and uptime will improve dramatically,” the website noted.
The company currently promises speeds between 50 to 150Mbps for Starlink project that plans to deliver high-speed Internet through a network of about 12,000 satellites. It has already put over 1,000 of its Starlink satellites in orbit.
"Speed will double to ~300Mb/s & latency will drop to ~20ms later this year," Musk said in a tweet on 22 February.
