Empowered Expert Committee Recommends 19 More Colleges For Institute Of Eminence Tag; BHU, AMU In List

On Friday (7 December), the Empowered Expert Committee (EEC) gave its second report which recommends 19 higher educational institutes for the status of Institute of Eminence (IoE), Indian Express has reported.
The report has been submitted to University Grants Commission (UGC). In the preliminary report, 11 institutes were recommended.
Banaras Hindu University, Panjab University, Andhra University are among some which have been recommended under the category of public institutes. A total of seven public institutes have been recommended.
The private institutions include VIT Vellore, Azim Premji University (Bengaluru), Krea University, Indian Institute for Human Settlements (Bengaluru), Ashoka University (Sonipat, Haryana), O.P.Jindal Global University etc.
Earlier, the plan was to recommend 10 public and private institutions for the IoE tag. But as of now, nearly 15 names from each category has been already recommended to the UGC, Business Standard reported.
Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) has approved three institutes from each category for the IoE tag. Among the public institutes, Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru, IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi have already received the tag. The private institutes include Jio Institute, Manipal Academy of Higher Learning, BITS Pilani.
