In Delhi and Bengaluru, hostels will be soon available for students from the northeast. Other cities will also have the facility very soon. This is due to a huge number of students from the region pursuing higher studies in cities like Delhi and Bengaluru.
Minister of State (I/C) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Dr. Jitendra Singh said this has been one of the major achievements of the central government and it will provide hostel facilities to students from the northeast across several cities in India.
Within the Bangalore University campus, a hostel for girl students from the northeast has been completed and will be inaugurated soon. Similarly, a hostel is under construction in Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
Likewise, a plot of land is being acquired in Rohini to set up another hostel in Delhi. Apart from Rohini, the government has acquired land in Dwarka as well to construct a state-of-the-art Northeast Convention Centre, a press release from PIB said.
A programme titled ‘Start-Up India, Stand-Up India’ has been providing venture capital to aspiring entrepreneurs from the region. In states like Sikkim and Meghalaya, the promotion of tourism has turned out to be a major source of income and revenue generation, he said.
