Officials from the Income Tax (I-T) Department today (16 April) conducted raids on the homes of the Zilla Panchayat President Nagarathna Swamy and Zilla Parishad member Timme Swamy in Maddur, Karnataka, reports Deccan Chronicle. Both the individuals belong to the Janata Dal (Secular) party and are believed to be close to Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.
Two firms owend by Nagarathna Swamy, namely Someshwara Fertiliser and Saw Mill, have also been raided.
Just last month, Income Tax (I-T) Department sleuths had carried out raids at multiple sites across Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mandy and Hassan in Karnataka, in what is believed to be a massive operation targeting government officials, contractors, and even a state minister, C S Puttaraju, who belongs to the Janata Dal (Secular) party.
The raids take place at a critical time considering the ongoing Lok Sabha polls. In recent weeks, large quantities of cash, liquor, etc have been seized by authorities across several states.
