Income Tax Department Issues Refunds Worth Rs 49,696 Crore To Over 22.75 Lakh Taxpayers Till 16 August

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has so far issued over Rs 49,696 crore to more than 22.75 lakh taxpayers between 1 April to 16 August this year, the Income Tax department said on Saturday (20 August).
As per the I-T department, income tax refunds of Rs14,608 crore have been issued in 21,50,668 cases and corporate tax refunds of Rs 35,088 crore have been issued in 1,24,732 cases.
"CBDT issues refunds of over Rs. 49,696 crore to more than 22.75 lakh taxpayers between 1st April, 2021 to 16th August, 2021. Income tax refunds of Rs. 14,608 crore have been issued in 21,50,668 cases & corporate tax refunds of Rs. 35,088 crore have been issued in 1,24,732 cases.," the I-T department said in a tweet.
The I-T department has recently launched a new e-filing portal to improve the experience of the taxpayers.
The e-filing portal is used by taxpayers to file their income tax returns and also see other details. On the other hand, officers use it for issuing notices, show-cause notices, summons, questionnaires, receiving responses to different e-proceedings and also for communicating final orders in penalties, appeals, exemptions and also assessment.
