Democratic Representative from Hawaii, Tulsi Gabbard, has announced that she will be seeking the party’s nomination for president in 2020. She is expected to make a formal announcement in a week’s time. Her subjects of interest are criminal justice reform, climate change and healthcare.
At the age of 21, she became the youngest person to get elected to the state legislature. She vacated her seat to serve with the Army National Guard in Iraq. She has been a critic of foreign military intervention.
She has been making friends in the Right as well, and has occasionally appeared on Fox News. Gabbard has been one of the few Democrats who supported the legislation to make it difficult for refugees from Syria to enter the US.
She has been quoted by Washington Post as saying, “There is no force more powerful than love. When we start from this foundation of love, inspired by this love, then we can truly have that strength and that power to be able to take on the tough challenges that are before us.”
