The travel woes for commuters beyond Gurugram may soon come to an end after the first phase of the Delhi-Alwar regional rapid transit system becomes a reality.
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), the agency responsible for implementing regional rapid transit system (RRTS), board has recently given its nod to a 106 km section between Sarai Kale Khan and Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behror (SNB) Urban Complex in Rajasthan in the first phase of the project, Times of India has reported.
Once the entire Alwar corridor is complete, it will provide commuting facilities to places in Haryana, such as Gurugram, Kherki Daula, Manesar, Bilaspur, Dharuhera and Rewari.
“Once these lines become operational, commuting to major points, such as the airport, will become easier. For instance, the Delhi-Gurugram-SNB link will originate at Sarai Kale Khan and reach Aerocity within 15 minutes. Similarly, travelling from Aerocity to Rajiv Chowk in Gurugram will take 15 minutes,” Sudhir Kumar Sharma, CPRO, NCRTC was quoted in the report as saying.
“Older Gurugram will be connected with this high-speed network and people can reach the airport in 10 minutes,” Sharma added.
Delhi-Alwar RRTS corridor has four stations in Delhi - Sarai Kale Khan (originating station), Jor Bagh, Munirka and Aerocity - that will seamlessly integrate it with Delhi metro stations and other modes of transport.
All three proposed corridors of RRTS - Delhi-Meerut, Delhi-Alwar and Delhi-Panipat- will converge at a mega station at Sarai Kale Khan.
Tenders have already been floated by the NCRTC for pile-loading test and geo-technical survey on Delhi-SNB section.
