According to Inamdar, India’s space capabilities enabled its Armed forces acquire “actionable intelligence” that helped destroy terrorist launch pads when surgical strikes were carried out after Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists attacked Indian army camp in Uri in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir in September 2016, reports The Hindu.
Addressing the students at the inaugural function of the three-day Innovation Festival organised by the District Science Centre in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi on Tuesday (21 January), Inamdar said that, “After the surgical strikes, ISRO highlighted, for the first time its role in India’s national security.”
Also present at the function Former Deputy Director of National Remote Sensing Agency, ISRO, Hyderabad, Dr Dilsukh Jain said, “It had launched several sounding rockets and GSLV-Mark 3.”
The centre was presented with a GSLV model and a book containing the images of the earth captured from space by ISRO to the centre by Dr Jain.
