The security forces on Wednesday (22 January) killed a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorist in an ongoing encounter in Khrew in South Kashmir’s Tral area, reports Business Standard.
A second terrorist is still trapped as a fierce encounter is underway in the upper reaches of Khrew.
The encounter was triggered on Tuesday (21 January) after security forces got a tip off about the presence of terrorists in the area.
An Army jawan and a special police officer (SPO) were killed in the encounter on Tuesday.
SPO Shahbaz Ahmad was killed on the spot while the Army jawan was injured during the gunfight and succumbed to the injuries later, a senior official said.
Earlier in the day Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh had told reporters that there were reports of presence of two terrorists in the area. The DGP said that operations against militants in the valley have been intensified.
“The counter-terrorist operations in the valley have been intensified, which has created a stir in south Kashmir. There have been half-a-dozen successful operations and they will continue in the same manner. We will work harder for the people and for establishing peace in Jammu and Kashmir,” the DGP said.
