Unprecedented violence was seen in the Jawaharlal Nehru University on Sunday (5 January) as several masked individuals, both male and female, thrashed students, including girls, and teachers inside the campus with wooden and metal rods, injuring many.
While the number of the injured in the various clashes which occurred through the day was not yet known, at least 20 students were admitted to the AIIMS with severe injuries following the evening clash.
Amid these clashes, reporter Barkha Dutt shared a WhatsApp message screenshot claiming to be from group named ‘Unity Against Left’ which included a phone number with the message “main gate par kuch karna hai kya” (should something be done at the main gate).
This message is from a WhatsApp group called 'Unity Against Left' - I've edited out the group because of privacy laws on showing numbers, but the operative message retained : "main gate par kuch karna hai" against those who "support JNU" #JNUViolence pic.twitter.com/asXyRlfrsK

However, very soon a lot of social media users shared screenshot about the number belonging to a handler at contribute.inc.in, a website that serves as contribution website of the Indian National Congress.
Thank you ma'am for exposing the Congress nexus behind the JNU violence. pic.twitter.com/y4SZufB6Dd

Later INC put out a tweet saying that the number belonged to a vendor and has nothing to do with INC.
The SM team of INC had hired the services of several private vendors to run the crowd funding campaign, for a limited period before Lok Sabha Elections after which it was discontinued. The number belonged to a vendor and has nothing to do with INC.

Additionally, the website contribute.nic.in was taken offline.
