Kia Motors is looking at India to contribute around 10 per cent to the company’s total global production in 2022.
Last year, the automaker’s plant in Anantpur in Andhra Pradesh made up 8 per cent of its total international output.
This share is set to increase to approximately 9.5 per cent in this calendar year.
With production plans of 300000-350000 units in 2022, Kia has become the quickest automaker in India to breach that annual mark.
In fact, Kia has already started a third shift and thus employed more people in its Anantpur facility.
“With the launch of our fourth product for the Indian market and targeted third shift commencement, we aim to produce over 300,000 vehicles in CY2022, including for exports,” Kia India’s senior executive Hardeep Brar told the Economic Times (ET).
Kia India turned profitable within a couple of years of starting sales in the country.
Its profit after tax (PAT) stood at Rs 1111 crore in FY21. Overall, Kia’s Indian operations contributed around 5 per cent to their global revenue in 2021.
Accordingly, numbers say that the Indian market volume will contribute 7.7 per cent to Kia’s total global sales in 2022.
