Continuing the rapid elimination of terrorist commanders in the Kashmir Valley, the security forces have killed top Hizbul Mujahideen commanders Tariq Maulvi alias Mufti Wakas and Lateef Tiger, in Shopian, reports Zee News.
Tiger is believed to be the last surviving terrorist from among the Burhan Wani group. A soldier from the Indian Army has also been injured in the encounter and two more terrorists are trapped in the area currently
The operation began based on a tip off, after which a joint team of 34 Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group (SOG) cordoned off the location. This was followed by a brief exchange of firing between Security forces and terrorists in Adkhara area of Imam Sahib in Shopian district.
Following the death of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani during an encounter in July 2016, Shopian has witnessed some of the worst cases of violence in the state. Shopian falls under Anantnag Parliamentary Constituency which is going to polls on 6 May.
