The company in charge for maintenance of the newly inaugurated skywalk has hired six professional bouncers at the monthly wage of Rs 15,500 to keep couples away from its premises, Hindustan Times has reported.
The 570-meter-long skywalk, which has a unique design feature of helical type circular rings is located at the centre of the national capital and has become a selfie spot for people. The bouncers’ job is to keep a sharp vigil and drive out those who stay on the skywalk premises for long. Bouncers have been hired as people usually don’t obey security guards.
“Since morning, I have had to ask at least 100 couples to move elsewhere,” says Ravinder, one of the bouncers hired for the job.
The new ITO skywalk was recently inaugurated on 15 October by the Public Works Department (PWD). The pedestrian bridge was built at a cost of Rs 59 crore to ease the way for pedestrians across Mathura Road, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Sikandra Road. It has seven entry/exit points at various locations.
However, the usage of the skywalk has not been up to expectations with the combined footfalls at the latest pedestrian bridge in Delhi has only reached a few hundred. The plan for ITO Sky Walk project began in 2003 but was finalised in April 2016 and approved in 2017.
