Modi-fied Khadi: Growth Rate Five Times Higher Than 2004-14; KVIC Demands ‘Khadi Express’ To Cover Gandhi’s Trails

The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) claimed that Khadi sales rose drastically over the past three fiscals, and ‘Khadi Express’ train will be run to create more awareness about the Gandhian cloth products.
“We have written a letter to Indian Railways for running a Khadi Express train which would exhibit Khadi products linked with Mahatma Gandhi in view of his 150th birth anniversary,” KVIC Chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena told PTI BHASHA.
The five-bogie-Khadi Express will run through all those places in the country where Mahatma Gandhi had stayed and will also facilitate in selling Khadi products, as per reports by Livemint.
The KVIC has claimed that the Khadi turnover was Rs 811 crore in 2014-15 and it increased to Rs 2,509 crore in 2017-18, they added that the growth rate of Khadi products rose dramatically from 6.68 per cent per annum during 2004-2014 to 37 per cent in the last four years.
They hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for propagating Khadi products and cited him as being the prime reason for the increased growth of the Khadi products.
The number of sale outlets for Khadi products has risen to 1,060 under Narendra Modi led NDA government and exhibitions were organised in 50 countries to increase the demand for Khadi products.
