Modi Govt Plans EV Charging Stations At 22,000 Petrol Pumps Across The Country

In a big boost to electric vehicles' charging infra in India, the Central government on Friday (3 December) said that it is working towards setting up charging stations at 22,000 of the around 70,000 petrol pumps in the country.
The government is prioritising setting up of such charging stations for electric vehicles at express highways, highways and populated cities, Union Minister for Heavy Industries Mahendra Nath Pandey informed the Rajya Sabha.
Replying to the supplementaries during the question hour in the Upper House, the minister also said that under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturign of Electric Vehicles in India II (FAME-India II) scheme, the government has directed the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) in Pune, an institution working in the field of automobiles, to develop a prototype for fast charging of electric vehicles, reports Economic Times
The aim is to have the fast charging system in the market by December next year, Pandey said.
"Our ministry along with the ministries of petroleum and power are jointly working towards implementation of FAME India. We are working towards setting up charging stations in 22,000 of the around 70,000 petrol pumps across the country and work is on in this regard," the minister informed the Rajya Sabha.
