The United States Department of Defense has said that the country was fully prepared for anything that could come its way, effectively brushing off Russian President Vladimir Putin’s claims of developing “invincible” missiles, reports AFP.
While giving his State of the Nation address, Putin claimed that Russia was working on advanced missile technology including missiles that could fly at speeds faster than the speed of sound and also was invulnerable to missile defence systems.
Responding to Putin’s claims, White House spokesperson Dana White said, “We are not surprised by his statement, and the American people should rest assured that we are fully prepared.”
Hypersonic weapons are being developed by several nations that include China, Russia and the United States. They are capable of hoodwinking existing missile defence systems because they can switch direction while in-flight and are are harder to intercept because they do not follow the conventional missile arc.
