Ahead of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's visit to India, the US State Department exuded confidence that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s re-election will further deepen the Indo-US bilateral ties, reports Zee News.
A senior State Department official said that PM Modi`s re-election with a stronger mandate as something that will help in deepening ties with the US, especially in trade and business as it would gel with his vision of building a strong India, during background briefing ahead of Mike Pompeo`s visit.
"PM Modi`s mandate strengthened the way he can implement his vision for a strong India that plays an important role in world affairs and the US wants to help achieve it by moving the relationship on an upward trajectory," the official added.
The official added that Pompeo is going to meet Prime Minister Modi and his new counterpart, Minister of External Affairs Jaishankar, who’s “really one of the visionaries behind the expansion of the US-India Strategic Partnership.''
Pompeo, a top ranking figure in the Donald Trump Administration, will be visiting India from 25 to 27 June. The visit comes ahead of the G20 Summit in Osaka, Japan on June 28-29, where the US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet on the sidelines.
