The Modi government approved constructing a six-lane Kaliagura-Baunsaguar section of National Highway-130 as part of the Raipur-Visakhapatnam Economic Corridor.
This section will be built with an estimated cost of Rs 1,539 crore.
“Development of 6-Lane Kaliagura - Baunsaguar section of NH-130-CD under Raipur - Visakhapatnam Economic corridor has been sanctioned under Bharatmala Pariyojana with a budget of Rs 1,539 Cr in the state of Odisha,” Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari said in a tweet.
According to The Times of India, the proposed road will pass through some interior pockets like Raighara, Umerkote, Jharigaon, Dabugaon, Papadahandi and Nabarangpur in Nabarangpur district and Boriguma, Dasamantapur, Koraput, Semiliguda and Pottangi in Koraput district.
“The land acquisition process for the project is at an advanced stage, while both the Koraput and Nabarangpur district administrations are extending full support for its expeditious implementation. Since it will be a great boost to socio-economic development of the tribal-dominated region, both the Centre and the state are giving the project top priority,” said an NH official.
The upcoming Raipur –Visakhapatnam road is a 464-km long economic corridor approved under Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase-I. It passes through Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
This economic corridor starts from Abhanpur near Raipur (Chhattisgarh) and ends at Sabbavaram near Vizag in Andhra Pradesh. The entire stretch is a greenfield alignment passing through the states of Chhattisgarh (124 km), Odisha (240 km) and Andhra Pradesh (100 km).
In March, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that the Raipur-Visakhapatnam Economic Corridor is targeted for completion by 2024-25.
