Under Chief Minister (CM) Ashok Gehlot of the Congress party, Rajasthan witnessed atrocities against members of the Scheduled Tribes (STs) and Scheduled Castes (SCs) rise to a 10 year high as per the data released by the State Police, reports The Indian Express.
The data release comes at a time when the State has witnessed two Dalit youths assaulted with a screwdriver being inserted into the private parts of one of them for suspicion of theft. Since the horrifying incident, the Congress Government in the State has been receiving widespread condemnation.
The data released by the Police shows that the total number of cases registered for atrocities against the members belonging to the SC and ST communities jumped to a whopping 8,591 cases in the bygone year of 2019.
This marked a massive 50 per cent jump in such cases compared to 2018. It should also be noted that over 2019, as per the data released by the State Police, Rajasthan has witnessed the crime rate surge by 31.08 per cent.
