An Imam has been accused of raping a minor in a mosque in Rajasthan’s Alwar region and allegedly later threatened to kill her if she reported the crime, Patrika has reported.
As per the report, the Imam identified as Saddam had become the religious cleric of Tijara area three years ago. He was responsible for imparting religious education among kids and leading the namaz prayers.
Members of the village used to send food to the Imam turn by turn and on 14 January the victim’s family was asked to perform the task. The family thus sent the dinner at about 8 PM with the victim.
After the minor gave the food to the Imam at the mosque he is allegedly said to have raped her and even threatened to kill her if she told anyone about it.
The report claims that as both the accused and the victim belong to the same religion, effort was made to suppress the matter but the victim’s family refused to relent.
The victim’s brother subsequently filed a case and the police have begun an investigation in the matter and booked three individuals in connection with the crime. The Imam is said to be absconding.
