This announcement by Rajnikanth ends long speculation over his entry into politics and comes a few days after his meeting with district secretaries of the Rajini Makkal Mandram (RMM). Though, following the culmination of the meeting Rajinikanth was tight-lipped over his political entry.
This announcement comes ahead of Tamil Nadu's Assembly Elections which are expected to be held in April-May.
Incidentally, it was long rumoured that Rajinikanth may join the BJP, though it remains to be seen what stance his new political party takes. Rajinikanth in the past has supported centre's measures like the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Population Register.
Rajinikanth has also said that he would pursue spiritual politics and thanked the Tamil Nadu government for taking prompt action against people out to denigrate Hindu god Murugan.
