China has said that it may consider ‘reverse sanctions’ on Indian companies operating in China if India blocks Chinese Huawei from the 5G trails which are geared to be launched within a few months, Tribune has reported.
The Indian telecom industry represents a huge market for 5G network gear and hence has become another flashpoint in the US-China struggle for control over 5G technology.
The US has repeatedly warned India of possible ‘backdoors’ in Chinese network equipment which can make Indian networks susceptible of Chinese spying. China has denied the US claims and said that equipments from Chinese manufacturers are just as safe as any other provider.
India has yet to take a call on inviting the Chinese network equipment behemoth to the trials. India’s ambassador to China, Vikram Misri, was on 10 July called up to the Chinese Foreign Ministry to allay its concerns over India giving in to US warnings and keeping Huawei out of the trials.
