During questioning by the Enforcement Directorate, Robert Vadra’s associate, C C Thampi, who is a businessman based out of Dubai, has revealed that he first came into contact with Vadra through Sonia Gandhi’s former Officer on Special Duty (OSD) P P Madhavan, reports The Times of India.
Vadra is facing charges of money laundering through purchases of benami properties in Dubai and London. It is believed that a shell company called Skylight Hospitality FZE, run by Thampi, was the front through which these assets were purchased by Vadra
Till now, Vadra and Thampi have made contradictory statements about their dealings and how they met; for example Thampi claims that Vadra had in fact stayed at the London property in question, while Vadra had in his statement denied the same.
Moreover, Vadra has claimed that he got introduced to Thampi on an Emirates flight, while Thampi has brought in the name of Madhavan.
The ED will continue questioning Vadra over this week, after which the latter is going to leave for the US and the Netherlands; the court has given permission for him to travel abroad for a health check up.
