Rs 1,000 Crore Allocated For Installation Of EV Charging Infrastructure Under Phase-II Of FAME India Scheme: Govt

The Central government on Friday (10 December) said that an amount of Rs 1,000 crore has been alloted for the development and installation of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles under the phase-II of FAME India Scheme.
In a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha, Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries Krishan Pal Gurjar said that the ministry has "supported 520 charging stations/infrastructure under the phase-I of FAME India Scheme".
Out of 520 charging stations, 452 charging stations have been installed as on 3 December, the minister added.
"Further, under phase-II of FAME-India Scheme, Rs 1000 crore is allocated for the development of charging infrastructure," he said.
The ministry has also sanctioned 2,877 EV charging stations in 68 cities across 25 states and UTs, and 1,576 charging stations across nine expressways and 16 Highways under Phase II of FAME India scheme.
"As per the information received from Ministry of Power, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), Power Grid Corporation Ltd. (PGCIL) and NTPC Ltd.have been engaged in installation of Public Charging Stations (PCS) in the country," the minister said.
While the NTPC has set up 142 charging stations, EESL and PGCIL have installed 396 and 24 charging stations across the country so far.
The minister further informed that the Union Power Ministry has clarified that the charging of batteries of electric vehicles through charging station does not require any license under the provisions of Electricity Act, 2003.
