A bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justices DY Chandrachud and Hima Kohli came down heavily upon an environmentalist for filing a petition seeking his appointment as the President of India after removing the incumbent President. The bench called the petition as ‘scurrilous’ and an abuse of the process of the court.
The court categorically directed the registry to not entertain such petitions in future.
The plea of the petitioner was that he was not allowed to contest Presidential polls. He argued that he should be heard and that he will work for the betterment of the world.
Interestingly he said, “Recent example of Sri Lanka where citizens entered President's home, what is happening in Russia, I will work for whole world where things are messy. President's role needs to be redefined.
The court on the other hand remarked that, “if you are an environmentalist, you can make speeches with your specialist knowledge but not this”.
