On Thursday (13 December), a warehouse in Bengaluru’s Whitefield collapsed, leading to three workers being killed, and two others injured. This happened in Seegehalli, where iron racks had been installed in Holison Warehouse Logistic Pvt Ltd. About five workers have been rescued and the site-owner Amanullah and business head Ajay have been arrested and charged for negligence.
The three deceased have been identified as Farooq, Subhash and Janan Darshan. The rescue-op was launched by fire and emergency department. Five workers were shifted to a hospital nearby.
The NDRF team also arrived at the spot as soon as alarms were raised about the incident. Since the warehouse is spread across 1,200 sq ft, more than 100 personnel have been deployed and the rescue op went on for eight hours.
After hearing the loud noise, locals rushed to the spot to have a look.
Deccan Chronicle quoted an NDRF official as saying, “At the time of the incident, over 50 workers were present. One of the bolts which was supporting the iron racks got loose and this led to the collapse of heavy iron racks. While we were sipping tea, we heard a loud noise and commotion. Upon checking, we were shocked to see that more than 200 vertically installed racks had collapsed, with many workers stuck under them.”
